Prescription Drug Detox

Prescription drug misuse occurs when someone takes prescription medication other than how it is prescribed. Commonly used prescription drugs include prescription painkillers, stimulants, depressants, and opioids. The symptoms of prescription drug detox vary depending on the exact medication used.

Alcohol Detox

Alcohol is one of the most commonly used substances in the United States. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, approximately 29.5 million Americans experience alcohol use disorder (1).

Alcohol detox can be dangerous, especially if an individual stops their alcohol use cold turkey. It is recommended that an individual wanting to stop their alcohol use does so in a medically supervised detox facility.

Symptoms associated with alcohol withdrawal, per the National Library of Medicine, include (2):

  • Headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Mood swings
  • Confusion
  • Increased blood pressure

For those wanting to undergo a safe withdrawal experience, The Plymouth House can aid each individual in receiving alcohol detox in NH.

  • MDMA (Ecstasy)
  • Cocaine
  • Crack cocaine
  • Bath Salts

Left untreated, the symptoms associated with stimulant detox can lead to discomfort. At The Plymouth House, we effectively treat symptoms associated with stimulant use disorder through the use of medical and clinical methods.

Benzodiazepine Detox

Benzodiazepines are a type of prescription tranquilizer, typically prescribed for the treatment of anxiety-related disorders and persistent sleep issues like insomnia. Benzodiazepines are highly addictive.

Stopping benzodiazepine use may lead to the following symptoms:

  • Insomnia and other sleep disturbances
  • Increased symptoms of anxiety, including panic attacks
  • Increased agitation and irritability
  • Hand tremors
  • Nausea, vomiting, and dry retching
  • Profuse sweating/night sweats
  • Difficulties concentrating
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Heart palpitations
  • Perception changes
  • Muscular and joint pain and stiffness

Even when taken as prescribed, benzodiazepine use can lead to the development of a substance use disorder. At The Plymouth House, our benzodiazepine treatment program aids each guest in taking the next appropriate step on their recovery journey.

Synthetic Drug Detox

Synthetic drugs, also referred to as designer drugs, are substances that are man-made. Spice and bath salts are examples of synthetic drugs.
